Always Thankful

Sometimes all it takes is a taste, and we are transported back to simpler times and happy memories. Comfort food, prepared fresh and with care, satisfies a part of our souls. Java & Friends on Main Street in East Greenville offers soul-satisfying homemade goodness.

Andy and April Grossman began the process of purchasing Java & Friends in January of 2020 from the previous owner, Carolina Lara. The doors of the newly retooled Java & Friends opened on March 7, 2020. The business is truly a family operation. Andy’s and April’s daughters Joelle and Naomi and niece Jordyn all work at the cafe.

No one could have foreseen what lurked just around the corner – and then the state shut down. And so, just a week later on March 14, the doors were closed once more. But the Grossmans focused on reaching people online to reach and serve more people through takeout. Customers enjoyed delicious food through curbside pickup and takeout throughout the shutdown.

It is also important for April and Andy to give back to the local community. When the shutdown order happened in March, the couple donated surplus food to a local charity, Driven By Hope. They support not just first responders, but also the “everyday heroes”, as Andy calls them, such as grocery workers who have continued to work through the pandemic. Facebook followers will see these offers meant just for them as well as daily specials.

Locals and visitors alike are discovering and returning to enjoy the many menu offerings that quickly become favorites. Andy says that the community has been “incredibly receptive” to the new business.

Java & Friends offers a wide variety of menu items to tempt you and whether you are hungry for a filling meal, a sweet treat, or just a cup of coffee with a friend, this coffee shop café has you covered. Everything is made with care. The available soups, salads, and sandwiches vary. The shop features a wide variety of hot and cold beverages – including coffee, teas, Italian sodas, and smoothies. Customize your sandwich to your taste to make it perfect just for you.

Keeping it local is important. Andy explained that he prefers to use local products to help local farms and businesses. Ingredients are locally-sourced whenever possible. Authentic New York bagels and bread are delivered fresh daily, too.

Andy and April are working hard to keep their family-owned small business open and safe for customers. The warm atmosphere of the shop invites you to settle in and enjoy yourself. In a bit of a hurry? No worries, choose something delicious from the grab-and-go cooler. You can also order your food for takeout to enjoy at home. And catering is on the menu through Java & Friends for your private events.
