Kristin Randazzo knew since her days studying abroad in Italy that this was the type of business that she wanted to have – an Italian kitchen offering the freshest foods and treating customers like family.
Giacomo’s Italian Market is her realization of that goal. When her husband Vince took over his family’s business, Giovanni’s Pizza, Kristin worked hard to expand the catering options. Throughout 2020, while restaurants were severely limited due to the pandemic lockdown, Kristin prepared take-home meals from Giovanni’s Pizza kitchen. Last Easter, the kitchen was completely taken up with preparing 500 Easter meals. The catering business was too big to be run from Giovanni’s.
The vacant store next-door provided Kristin with the opportunity to spread her wings, to design and open her own place where she could offer fresh comfort food from her own kitchen. And her family is right there to help and to support her. Kristin’s mother, Mary Anne, and her friend Nancy are on site every day at 4AM to begin the daily baking Cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, chocolate chip cookies, fresh pastries of all sorts – including the breakout star: the cannoli bomboloni (think of it as a cannoli donut… or a delicious piece of Heaven). Aunt JoAnne also prepares food in the Giacomo’s kitchen. Cierra, a childhood friend and family member has been an instrumental part in helping Kristin get the market open and running smoothly. She also assists in managing the front of house and catering.
Naming the new venture was not difficult. Young Giacomo Randazzo had always let his mother know in no uncertain terms that it wasn’t fair that his older brother Giovanni already had a place with his name on it. When asked what he wanted to be sold in the new store, Giacomo answered, “Candy and Legos”. You’ll notice the candy rack is right up front.
The bread is fresh from New York and the cold cuts are imported – as are many of the grocery items – from Italy. Giacomo’s offers creative and authentic comfort food that is made with the best ingredients. The grab-and-go case is chock full of delicious meals that are ready to eat: meatloaf meals, fire-roasted ribs, cioppino (fish/ shellfish stew), kebabs, and more. The space has limited indoor seating, but it is an option. Eat-in or take out – it’s all fresh-made and delicious from Giacomo’s Italian Market.
